120 artists from 16 countries have arrived at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus to take part in the 3d Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition. This was announced by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee and the Jury of the Competition General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Vladimir Gridyushko at the meeting with the members of the jury and contestants.
Today, the young contestants have registered and tomorrow the two stages of the 1st round of auditions will start. In the evening of 9 December, the names of the 30 lucky winners will be known. They will enter the 2nd round. By the third final round they will be only 10.
By the way, not only the esteemed jury but also the audience will be able to appreciate the vocal talent of our contestants. According to the tradition of our forum, in the second round of the competition, on 11 December, the soloists will perform on the main stage of the theatre, and the Gala-concert of the finalists will take place on 13 December. People’s Choice Award will be awarded in addition to the jury diplomas and awards. The winners of previous competitions will perform at the gala concert. Their names are well-known to opera devotees: Ramiz Usmanov (Uzbekistan), Nadezhda Pavlova (Russia), Mikhail Malafiy. (Ukraine), Lasha Sesitashvili (Georgia), Elena Stikhina (Russia), Victor Mendelev (Belarus), Ilya Silchukov (Belarus).
We’d like to remind you that the singing competition is held in three rounds, the first two - with piano accompaniment, and the third round (finale) is with orchestral accompaniment. In the final of the competition, the participants perform a scene from one of the main operas from classical or contemporary repertoire. The stars of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will lend them a hand at that.
The Grand Prize winner will receive a cash prize of US$ 10,000, 1st prize – US$ 8, 000, 2nd prize – US$ 6,000, 3rd – US$ 4,000. But most importantly, many young competitors will get a valuable chance in their artistic career engagements to sing in the leading opera theatres and companies in the world. The best of the best will be chosen by a more than competent jury which is comprised of the directors of the opera houses, impresarios and eminent figures in music.
