Moments of 2016. Events and people

January. On the Eve of the Old New Year the Big New Year's Ball took place for the 7th  time. At the beginning of the festive evening, right after the parade of stars of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, a traditional presentation of Christmas Theatre Awards from the Belarusian-Swiss Bank BelSwissBank was held. Stanislav Trifonov, the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus, received Best Opera Soloist Award.   The Honoured artist of the Republic of Belarus Irina Eromkina was decorated with Best Ballet Soloist Award. In the category Best Chorus Singer Mikhail Abramchik was decorated.  Best Artist of the Orchestra Award was received by the recipient of the Francysk Skaryna Medal Larysa Lasotskaya (flute), and Dzmitry Shemet was nominated Best Artist of the Corps de Ballet Award.


January. The creative team of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus represented by the principal artist Alexandr Kostiuchenko and chief stage director Mikhail Pandzhavidze were awarded the special prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus for significant achievements in the development of modern opera art and for the production of The Tsar’s Bride.



January. People’s Artist of Ukraine Tatiana Anisimova performed the lead role in Verdi’s Aida on the stage of the Bolshoi.



January. Opera Nabucco where Nina Sharubina sang the part of Abigail marked the artist’s birthday anniversary.



January. The soloist of The Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater Nigar Ibrahimova danced the leading part in Giselle, ou les Wilis ballet.


January. An outsanding soprano Nina Sharubina, the recipient of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Republic of Belarus. The Order of Francysk Scaryna was presented to an excellent baritone of our opera, the People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Petrov. The Francysk Scaryna Medal was awarded to the General Director of the theatre Vladimir Grisyushko and chief stage director Mikhail Pandzhavidze. Artist –decorator Demian Tolstik was awarded the Medal for Labour Services.

February. The part of Duke of Mantua in opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi was sung by an Uzbek artist Ramiz Usmanov, the Grand Prize Winner of the 1st Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition.  



February. The 30th  artistic anniversary of People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Petrov was celebrated by three operas: The Queen of Spades, The Tsar’s Bride and Rigoletto.



February. The opening of the 4th  “Vladimir Spivakov invites” Festival featuring People’s Artist of Russia Hibla Gersmava took place on the stage of the theatre.



February. The part of Calaf in Turandot was sung by People’s Artist of Ukraine Alexander Gurets.



February. The opera Der fliegender Hollander was performed with the participation of Austrian musicians, conductor Manfred Mayrhofer and an opera soloist Kurt Riddle as Daland.   


March. For the first time  Jiří Kylián’s ballet Petite Mort premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.




March. Opera Macbeth by Giuseppe Verdi was set on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus for the first time.



March. The title part in Iolanta was performed by the soloist of ‘St Petersburg's Opera’ theatre, the second prize winner of Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition Valentina Fedeneva.



March. For the first time the Chamber Hall of our theatre hosted a project “Let’s read Karatkevich together” that put together a band of outstanding sports, TV, media, theatre and pop stars at the evening dedicated to the life and literary art of Vladimir Karatkevich.



March. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus is the most popular theatre in the country! The National Statistics Committee prepared a report timed to the International Theatre Day according to which the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus was the most visited one in 2015.


March. The lead role in the opera Tosca was sung by a soloist of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre Natalia Muradymova.



April. The story of princess Turandot has gained its finale. The opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini was staged in the new edition with the final scene. The part of Liù was performed by Honoured Artist of Kazakhstan , soloist of Astana Opera Jannat Baktay.



April. The part of Canio in Pagliacci  was sung by a soloist of the Georgian National Opera and Ballet Theater of Tbilisi, the winner of the third prize of Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition Lasha Sesitashvili.



April. The opera The Tsar’s Bride is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the outstanding Belarusian baritone, People’s Artist of USSR, Arkadiy Savchenko (1936-2004).



April. The part of René in the opera Iolanta was performed by the artist of Young Opera Artist Programme of the Bolshoi of Russia, the winner of international competitions Alexander Roslavets.



April. The part of Riccardo in the opera Un ballo in maschera was sung by the soloist of Lviv State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the winner of the First Prize and People’s Choice Award of Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition Mikhail Malafiy.



April. A renowned singer, People’s Artist of USSR, Irina Bogacheva sang the part of the Countess in The Queen of Spades. Maria Galkina, the winner of international competitions as Liza.



April.  The performance of Verdi's masterpiece Requiem, unique in its beauty and scale, was timed to the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy.  

 

May. The ballet company of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus was invited to take part in the International Ballet Festival in Estonia as principal troupe for the first time.



May. The exhibition of paintings of the artist Elena Ventrillon-Makarevitch was launched at the theatre.



May. The opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi was dedicated to the memory of the People’s Artist of Belarus, the principal chorus master of the theatre from 1960 to 1993, Aleksey Kogadeev. He would have celebrated his 90th anniversary.



May. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus celebrates its birthday by the Open Day. More than 2000 visitors, devotees of opera and ballet, went on tours around the theatre.



May. Theatre’s Birthday was highlighted by the performance of  the opera Carmen directed by a Spanish conductor Daniel Montanè.




May. For the first time the project “The Bolshoi Theatre for Children” left the premises of the theater giving the joy of theatrical fete to a special group of viewers, the pupils of the Auxiliary boarding school No. 10 in Minsk.



June. Elena Salo and Oksana Yakushevich were awarded the title of the Honoured Artist of the Republic of Belarus.



June. The national ballet Vitovt stole the hearts of Moscow audience! Belarusian artists in Yury Troyan’s production were received with rapturous applause.


June. The Ballet Summer at the Bolshoi Festival was opened with a premiere of the ballet Love and Death, choreography by Olga Kostel.



June. The Ballet Summer at the Bolshoi once again delighted its audience with new and well-know names of the world of choreography. The Ballet Summer was concluded with a Gala concert of world ballet stars.




June.  For three days the world famous residence of the Belarusian princes Radziwills became the cultural center of Belarus. For the 7th time the festival "Evenings of the Bolshoi Theatre at the Radziwill castle" took place.



June. The People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Kortes died. He was the composer whose life had been associated with the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus for four decades.



August. The Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus successfully presented the opera Eugene Onegin at the International Birgitta Festival in Tallinn, Estonia.


September. The premiere performance of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro opened the new season of the Bolshoi.



September. The part of Marfa from the opera The Tsar’s Bride was performed by the winner of international competition and the winner of the Singer of the World Award, a native of Blearus, Nadine Koutcher.



September. The Honoured Artist of Belarus Elena Bundeleva celebrated her anniversary by singing the part of Micaela in the opera Carmen.



September. The part of Rigoletto was performed by a Slovak tenor Michal Lehotský.



September. For the first time on the stage of the Bolshoi a masterpiece of ballet art the ballet Paquita by Ludwig Minkus was performed.



October. The Honoured Artist of Belarus, opera accompanist Georgy Karant celebrated his artistic and birthday anniversary by playing a concert in Larisa Aleksandrovskaya Chamber Hall.


October. The title role in the opera Aida was performed by the soloist of Astana Opera Zhupar Gabdullina.


October. The role of Lensky in the opera Eugene Onegin was performed by the winner of international competitions Mikhail Malafiy. Conductor Arkady Berin.


October. The opera The Tsar's Bride was conducted by People's Artist of Belarus Alexander Anisimov.


November. The part of  Gamzatti in the ballet La Bayadère was performed by the soloist of Astana Opera Anel Rustemova.


November. The Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, soloist of Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theatre Afaq Abbasova sang Nedda in the opera Pagliacci.


November. The title role in the opera Madame Butterfly was performed by the soloist of Astana Opera Ajgul Niyazova.


November. The main parts in the ballet Swan Lake were performed by the soloists of Astana Opera Ajgerim Beketayeva and Olzhas Tarlanov.


November. The winners of the National Theatre Award are the productions of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus and our brilliant artists.
"Best Opera Production" The Tsar's Bride, "Best Ballet Production” The Little Prince. "Best Male Opera Role" Stanislav Trifonov in the part of Grigory Gryaznoy (The Tsar's Bride by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov). "The Best Female Opera Role" Oksana Volkova for the role of Carmen in the eponymous opera by Georges Bizet. "Best Male Ballet Role" Konstantin Geronik for his performance of the Little Prince in the eponymous ballet. "The Best Female Ballet Role" Lyudmila Khitrova for the role of Laurencia in the same name ballet by Alexander Krein. A Special Prize of Belarusian Union of Theatrical Figures "Inspiration" was awarded to the first Deputy General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus Vladimir Rylatko.



November. The company of the Yakut State Opera and Ballet Theatre made its first appearance on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

November. For the first time in the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus an exhibition of Slutsk belts and a performance of a folk group HardWood took place before the performance of the opera Grey Legend.


November. The winners of the audience award of the 2nd Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition, Nadezhda Pavlova and Mikhail Malafiy were featured in the opera La Traviata.


November.  The production of Giselle staged by Radu Poklitaru was presented within the framework of the International Festival of Modern Choreography "Kyiv Modern-Ballet."


December. The premiere of the ballet Sonnets to music by British composers Peter Warlock and Ralph Vaughan-Williams directed by Aleksandra Tikhomirova.


December. The lead roles in the opera Pagliacci were performed by Kaludi Kaludov (Canio) and Anna Dytry (Nedda).



December. The 3rd Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition brought together 120 artists from 20 countries.



December. The 7th  Minsk International Christmas Opera Forum was completely sold out. The company of the Odessa National Opera and Ballet Theater made its appearance on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus for the first time.



December. A premiere of the comic opera Viva la Mamma! Conventions and Inconveniences of the Stage by Gaetano Donizetti took place in the Chamber Hall of the theatre.



December. In the magical season of Christmas and the New Year the ballet troupe of the theatre went on a tour through Germany and Austria with the performances of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, or Another Christmas Story.
